Dorset Ridgeway Project
The historic and beautiful landscape of The South Dorset Ridgeway has benefitted from a major investment from the Heritage Lottery Fund and our school this year is working in partnership with an innovative mix of organisations to bring to life this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty through their ‘Land, Stones and Bones’ project. We want our children to enjoy and feel pride for this local area that many experts consider as important as that around Stonehenge.
We have planned hands on investigations into this ‘living textbook’ with its wealth of archaeology, wildlife and rich cultural heritage through historical and scientific enquiry. We are going to bring the landscape into our classrooms and take our classrooms into the landscape to draw on the past and build foundations for the future.
This exciting whole school project will become a significant and vibrant part of our curriculum embedding aspects of the new national curriculum into our learning.
To make this learning real and relevant for the children we intend to become experts by working alongside many other professionals. We have exciting expeditions, activities and visitors planned to inspire and stimulate this new area of learning. Each year group will be exploring different aspects of this amazing local area and presenting their learning as creatively as always.
