PPA

PPA Time – Planning, preparation and assessment time

recorder_lessonWhat is PPA time?

PPA is a statutory entitlement which applies to all teachers who come within the remit of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).

PPA time is time set aside for teachers during their timetabled teaching day to allow them to carry out planning, preparation and assessment activities.

Teachers are entitled to a minimum of 10 per cent of the time they spend teaching their class, as PPA time.

At Damers we consider this time for teachers to work alongside their year team as most valuable. It enables them to plan, prepare and assess learning of the highest quality.

To enable us to provide this time for PPA we offer an alternative learning arrangement on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

ppa_dramaThis academic year our focus is on developing our arts provision by providing high quality skills based learning experiences in the creative arts. By developing skills in the creative arts our children are learning habits, behaviours and attitudes that are necessary for success in any field of learning.

As an active, healthy school we also provide a high-quality physical education curriculum which provides opportunities for our pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.

To ensure this provision is of the highest quality it is delivered by specialist teachers and trainers:

Trevor Senior  – Sports instructor

Kirsten Thorpe – PE/Dance specialist

Anne Newlin – Music specialist

Nikki Simmonds – Dance specialist

Sinead Gannon – Drama specialist

Moira Bearwish – Art specialist

Years 2, 3 and 4 will work on a half termly programme of 2 different activities per week. Over the course of the year they will spend 4 half terms working on each of the 3 subjects. Each year group will inform parents of their child’s programme of activity.

Year 4, Foundation and Year 1 will receive specialist music provision with Mrs Newlin during their curriculum time.

On your child’s PPA day they will be required to arrive in school in their normal school uniform. If PE or dance is one of their options they will change into their PE kit during the day.

Can we just remind you that our outdoor PE kit consists of navy joggers and sweatshirt, white T-shirt and trainers and our indoor kit consists of blue shorts and white T-shirt.  Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit – click here for further details of our uniform.
