Virgin Fiver Award Ceremony
This year Damers First School’s Eco Club and Maths club joined together to create the ‘Damers Eco Force’. We entered the Virgin Fiver Challenge. In-case you don’t know it’s where you get given £5 and you have to use the money to make more.
We decided to make garden grenades (flower seeds mixed with biodegradable paper) to sell locally. Unexpectedly we won ‘Best Group in 5-8 years category’ in the WHOLE country! Our reward was a trip to London. On Tuesday 20th September, after a long train journey, we got off the train at Waterloo Station and got a private taxi to Piccadilly Circus.
First we met with the other winners and went for a delicious lunch at the Rainforest Cafe – yum yum! It is disguised as a jungle with rainforest animals and living fish.
Once we were full of yummy food, we went round the corner to Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum and here are some of the things we saw: black hole, laser race, dungeon, giant wood chair, knitted Ferrari, candy portraits, 3D match stick pictures, Titanic water (to touch), story’s grim, romantic and happy, mirror maze but lots more too!
After that we went to Ham Yard 5* Hotel for the award ceremony. In their theatre we listened to what the other winners did and our hosts were Liz Barker (ex Blue Peter presenter) and Ben Towers (entrepreneur). They presented our award which was a glass trophy and framed certificate, they will look brilliant in our school collection! We got called up on stage when it was our turn and took it in turns to hold the certificate and trophy.
In our taxi we made our way back to Waterloo Station ready for the long journey home. We arrived home at 8 o’clock and went home for a good night sleep. What an unforgettable adventure!
