COP26 Poetry

People Need Nature and the Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network has recently run a poetry challenge judged by poet Louisa Adjoa Parker. The challenge asked young poets to write about how protecting nature can help solve the climate crisis, and how action for the climate can help nature.

As part of People Need Nature’s contribution to COP26 Louisa Adjoa Parker was invited to work with some children at Damers First School to create poems expressing their feelings about the climate crisis and its impact on nature.

The workshops and our children were inspiring and a small sample of this work was presented through film and was broadcast during the COP26 showcase in Glasgow; you can the watch the Young Poets Network showcase here –  https://youtu.be/FYGTb3zSYAE.

All of the children who participated were amazing and we are so proud of the words they produced to express their feelings. There are future projects planned in our community between People Need Nature and Damers to showcase all of the work.

This is such an exciting opportunity not only for our young poets to be able to work with such an acclaimed poet but also to make a contribution to such an important topic and have a voice on a world stage.
